How to Fix One Red Light on Xbox 360: 360 Red Light Fix Guide

by Shane McGriever

If your Xbox 360 is flashing one red light around the power ring, you have a common console error. This usually indicates a hardware failure, but can often be fixed with some simple steps at home.
Step 1: Disconnect and reconnect Xbox 360 cables
First of all, turn off your console. Unplug all controllers, memory cards, and accessories.
Also remove power and video cables. Make sure your power supply is unplugged, and take out the short cord from the power brick.
Step 2: Plug everything back in
Once you get everything unplugged, wait a few minutes, then reconnect all your cables. Then, turn the console back on and see if the problem is fixed.
If it is not, you may need to remove your Xbox 360 hard drive.
Should you need to remove the hard drive, it is wise to consult an Xbox 360 repair guide. You will need to open the console and manually remove it. After that, you might have to send it to Microsoft for repairs if your console is still under warranty.
If not, you may be able to repair your Xbox 360 yourself. It is not too difficult to diagnose and fix most errors. The worst errors are usually caused by hardware problems, such as the one red light on Xbox 360 error.
In these cases, you'll sometimes have to replace specific components, but sometimes you may be able to just open your console, tweak a few things, and then have a working Xbox again.
